An Example Case Study
A small local company taking on a large new contract found themselves with an Access database that was unable to cope. With details of 30,000 maintained sites across the country and information about all the tasks carried out when they were visited every few months, the database began giving up the ghost. A combination of poor design and a sudden influx of new nformation was too much.
We transferred all the existing data to a SQL Server database and designed a brand new user interface enabling the data to be shared across the network more effectively.
In addition, the paper-driven data-collection system worked well but was labour intensive when it came to inputting that data into the database. We developed several handheld PDA applications to collect the data at source and automated the process of updating the database. The task of adding new visit records was reduced from a number of hours to a number of minutes.
